About us:

The Boat

Flyer is a Boréal 44 built in 2019 in Tréguier, Brittany. She is a sturdy aluminum boat with a centerboard which allows us to visit remote places. Since purchasing her in 2023, we’ve made several adjustments and additions to her so she better suits our needs.

The Crew

Steve aka Dad

Dad is a very strong sailor and is very good at tying knots, driving the boat, and sailing the boat. He was born in Philadelphia, PA and is very experienced at ocean racing. He has also helped design a lot of university buildings and pedestrian bridges. When we go fishing, he drives the dinghy and knocks the fish out, sometimes with a water bottle if that’s all there is.

Kristen aka Mom

Mom is a floater who sometimes contributes insane amounts and sometimes just regular amounts. On the boat, Mom helps us dock and makes most of our meals. She is the number one cat fan on the boat. She was born in Winchester, MA and met Dad in architecture school a long time ago. She didn’t grow up sailing, but is learning.

James aka Itz Kirbyy

James is the family fish — he’s never met water too cold to swim in. He is also the family IT lead and the most likely to go for a walk and come back with a lizard. James is the number one giver of cat nicknames and composer of cat-themed songs. He makes excellent French toast and will likely use technology to solve the world’s problems, including making the font on your phone bigger when your eyes get old.

Paul aka Wog, Zotzist

Paul is the family equipment manager. When not taping hockey sticks, he can be found organizing fishing equipment while listening to the Harry Potter books again or talking about surfing. (Ask him about how he got one of Kai Lenny’s surf boards.) Paul is usually the one asking to put up a different sail and Dad is usually the one to say no. If you hear a loud voice at the anchorage, it’s probably Paul.

Pelle the cat, aka Pell-Mell, La Nuun, Cuteen, Mucksush and whatever other names James comes up with

Pelle is a tabby cat. When not cruising, she enjoys patrolling our neighborhood, scratching lilac trees, rolling around on concrete, and getting belly rubs. Pelle has taken to boat life, but probably prefers land life. We’re interested to see if she enjoys eating flying fish. When cruising, any island Pelle visits is henceforth known as Wild Cat Island.
